Buckingham shakes off Liberty-Bedford

If Buckingham can win convincingly over a Group AA squad with Tarian Ayers scoring just five points and struggling from the field, the Knights are going to be tough to beat as the James River District slate kicks in.

That’s exactly what the Knights did Wednesday as Ayers managed five points on a rough shooting night but got all his teammates involved with the rarely seen assists/rebounds double double in a 65-57 victory over Liberty-Bedford in the Altavista Chirstmas tournament. Ayers had 10 assists and 10 rebounds

Timmy Randolph and Cam Johnson did much of the heavy lifting, with Johnson pouring in 21 points and Randolph scoring 10 to go with his 12 rebounds. Both players had three steals each. Johnson managed to dish out six assists.

Tariq Bartee had 10 points and Drequan Scott had nine. Scott also had 10 boards.

Darius McCoy had 23 points to lead Liberty.
