Boys Basketball Roundup 2.1.17: Orange, Buckingham pick up wins

Orange County’s boys basketball team was down 10 at the half, but with an explosive third quarter that accounted for more than half their points, the Hornets were able to squeeze by Monticello 64-60.

Kaeshawn Braxton had a monster dunk during the third quarter to help ignite that run that included five 3-pointers, three of them by Jordan Shook with the other two coming from Alzie Johnson.

Shook finished with 18 points on the night while Dayvon Green had 15 and Alize Johnson finished with eight.

For Monticello, Malik Barbour had 15, Ukari Brooks had 13 and Ben Drake chipped in 11.

 

Western boys beat Louisa

Western Albemarle’s boys squad kept pace in the Jefferson District standings with a 60-47 victory over Louisa County.

The Warriors (18-2, 12-1) remain tied atop the JD standings with Albemarle with one loss each.

Ryan Ingram led the way for the Warriors with 19 points while Austin Cress notched a double double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

 

Albemarle blows past Powhatan

Albemarle made short work of Powhatan on the road, rolling 95-54 over the Indians.

The win pushes the Patriots to 12-1 on the year in the Jefferson District with one game left in the regular season slate.

Albemarle’s Austin Katstra had a monster double double with 37 points and 18 rebounds while Jake Hahn notched 16 points and nine boards to go with five assists. Cartier Key finished with 10 points and eight assists. J’Quan Anderson dished out six assists of his own.

 

Chambers powers Buckingham past Randolph-Henry

Buckingham County’s boys basketball team beat Randolph-Henry 63-58 Tuesday night, with Antonio Chambers exploding on senior night to lead the way.

Chambers poured in a career-high 44 points for the Knights while fellow senior Gray Heslip added 11. Brycen Newby pulled down 12 rebounds

 

Goochland beats Bluestone

Goochland boys basketball has been solid on the road in James River District play and that trend continued Tuesday night as the Bulldogs beat Bluestone 52-45 behind some stingy defense and another monster double double effort from Jack Twombly who had 26 points and 16 rebounds.

 

Other Scores

Charlottesville’s boys squad beat Fluvanna 65-37.

STAB boys basketball beat Woodberry Forest 60-46. Saints are now 7-1 in the Prep League.

Collegiate beat Fork Union 57-45.
