Madison County’s girls basketball team pulled past Orange County 56-42 Saturday night, picking up the Mountaineers’ first victory of the season.
Makayla Taylor scored 17 to lead the Mountaineers while freshman Sophia Adams finished with 13 points. Sophomore Allie Burbridge scored nine for Madison.
Laine Harrington finished with 13 for Orange while Erin Ryder had 12 and Sincere Cook had eight.
The Hornets sputtered down the stretch and Madison surged, scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter while Orange mustered just eight.
Nelson County girls beat Grace Christian
Nelson County’s girls team picked up its first win of the year Saturday against Grace Christian, winning 34-30.
The Governors overcame a rough first quarter where they managed just one point to comeback and pick up the win. Kalin McGarry and Delaney Stone poured in the bulk of Nelson’s scoring with 13 points each, with Stone posting a huge double double with 15 rebounds to go with her scoring output.
Treshonda Crawford had four assists while Megan Brown notched 10 rebounds for the Governors.
