Basketball Roundup 1.31.19: Miller girls, Western girls snag wins

Miller School’s girls basketball team made quick work of Roanoke Catholic Thursday night, leaning on a balanced offense to get the job done.

 

Presleigh Braxton led the way with 13 points while Naya Hunter and Hannah Woodard each notched 12 points. Olivia Wagner chipped in 11.

 

Miller will host St. Catherine’s Friday at 6 p.m.

 

Western girls drop Powhatan

Western Albemarle girls basketball beat Powhatan 50-42 on the road Thursday night.

 

Elisabeth Coffman led the offense with 18 points while Caity Driver just missed a double double with 12 points and eight boards. Sydney Sherman had five assists and two steals.

 

The Warriors look to stay unbeaten in Jefferson District play at home against Albemarle Friday night.

 

Goochland boys beat Lunenburg

Gooochland’s boys basketball team rolled 69-22 past Central Lunenburg Thursday night.

 

Kam Holman notched 12 points and four stals in three quarters of work while Quincy Snead finished 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals in the same span. Isaiah Matovu scored 12 points.

Covenant girls beat Holy Cross 45-31 with Ella Dalton scoring 23. Madison County boys basketball falls to Clarke 61-51 with Gaines Swink scoring 20 and William Graves notching 18. Buckingham boys fall 42-37 to Bluestone, Jalen Chambers led Buckingham with 13 while Trevor Kelly had nine for the Knights.
