Basketball roundup 1.13.17: Mull’s buzzer beater lifts Orange past Powhatan

Orange County’s Shannon Mull only knocked down two buckets against Powhatan Thursday night.

Lucky for the Hornets, one was particularly timely. Mull buried a 3-pointer with .8 seconds to play for a buzzer beater and a 76-73 victory over the Indians.

Kaeshawn Braxton carried the load for the Hornets throughout with 19 points and 16 rebounds for Orange and Jordan Shook also got going with 18 points on the night. Tre Smith chipped in 10 points for Orange.

Justin DeLeon had 21 points for Powhatan while Jaylen Hempfield notched 16 for the Indians.

 

Buckingham boys beat Amel

Buckingham County had to battle from 12 points down to do it, but the Knights beat Randolph-Henry 48-44 Thursday night.

Antonio Chambers poured in 29 points for the Knights, going 11-for-21 from the field while also posting six steals and four rebounds.

Andrew Johnson scored nine points and dished out four assists while Gray Heslip had three steals and Brycen Newby had 12 rebounds.

 

Goochland boys edge Amelia

Goochland’s boys basketball team picked up a tough road win Thursday, edging Amelia 65-60.

Deion Harwood poured in 28 points for the Bulldogs while Jack Twombly posted a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

 

Other Scores

Louisa County’s girls basketball team picked up a Conference 19 win on the road at King George 55-40.

The Lions move to 9-2 on the season with the win. Tyi Skinner and Anna Agee led the Lions with 16 points each. DaNikqua Marshall scored 14. Halia Ellis from King George led all scorers with 19.

Buckingham’s girls basketball beat Randolph-Henry 56-20. Jada Chambers and LeDetra Swann finished with 16 and 14 points respectively for the Knights.
