Blue Ridge baseball’s Will Bankhead was dominant Tuesday against Eastern Mennonite, striking out 12 in five innings to throw the Barons’ second no-hitter of the year in a 15-0 blowout to open VIC Tournament play.
Bankhead went 1-2-3 in the first inning with a pair of strikeouts and a dropped third strike and then picked up a 4-0 cushion to work with after Blake Koenning singled to score Isaiah Green and Kentaro Yamaoka to get the Barons’ scoring started in the bottom of the first. That was all Bankhead needed as he went to work retiring the side in the next four innings.
The Barons’ offense was also locked in. Blue Ridge got a huge effort from Green who had a triple and went 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs in the leadoff spot. Yamaoka knocked in two runs, Koenning finished with three RBI and Jack Todd had three RBI. Ali Tejani and Kaylen Danos each knocked in a run and Jayhyun Kim went 3-for-3 and knocked in three runs.
