Albemarle volleyball cruises past Harrisonburg in season opener

Albemarle’s volleyball team made short work of Harrisonburg at home Thursday night, cruising past the Blue Streaks 3-0 in the Pats’ regular season opener.

 

Avani Hopkins led the Patriots with nine kills while Adalee Lynch and Esther Amos notched seven kills each. Hopkins added eight digs to her effort at the net. Audrey Sheedy led the Patriots with nine digs and also put together a team-high three aces. Keira Roach had seven digs and 10 assists with Olivia Turner also finishing with 10 assists. Amos and Maya Winterhoof had three blocks each.

 

A year after beating Harrisonburg twice, including a 3-1 win in the playoffs, Albemarle went to work quickly, edging the Blue Streaks 26-24 with Amos closing the door for the game one win. A Lynch block then ended the second set 25-11 before she also closed out a 24-19 third game victory.

 

Albemarle hosts Massaponax Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
