With a state tournament berth on the line Thursday in Albemarle’s boys tennis’ clash with Massaponax, the Patriots took care of business and picked up a 6-0 win to punch their ticket to the state quarterfinals.
The win also puts Albemarle in the Class 5, Region D championship Friday against Harrisonburg at home.
David Sun’s 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles led the way while Ethan Matthews and Lucas Balcells each won 6-1, 6-0. Jack Stalfort won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Henry Forsyth won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.
The Patriots face Harrisonburg for the region title at 3 p.m. Friday. They advance to the Class 5 state quarterfinals next week.
