Albemarle boys, girls swimming each grab third at Group 5A meet

Albemarle’s girls and boys swim teams headed to George Mason Friday and put together strong efforts as the Patriots boys and girls teams each took third place in the Group 5A state meet.

Menchville won the boys state title with 272 points while Princess Anne took second with 245 and Albemarle had 201. On the girls side, Patrick Henry-Roanoke ran away with the meet with 328 points. Briar Woods took second with 223 while Albemarle checked in with 195 in third.

The Albemarle boys closed strong, winning the 400-free relay for the squad’s lone event title of the day. But beyond that big finish, the Patriots got things done with three big performances carrying the load. Caleb Smith took third in the 200-free and sixth in the 500-free. Hogan Harper took third in both the 200-IM and 100-free while Nick Pease took second in the 100-fly and 100-back.

To round out the Patriots’ scoring, Jack Robbins finished 12th in the 500-free, Nick Ashby was ninth in the 100-breast and Ishprect Singh was 16th in the 100-breast. Grace Farmar finished 13th in the 200-free relay and 14th in the 100-free.
