Albemarle baseball tops Monroe in tourney final

Albemarle’s baseball team picked up a quality on Saturday playing at William Monroe’s stadium opening tournament, knocking off the Dragons 11-3 with a 2-hitter.

Starting pitcher Kyle Ripley threw five innings of no-hit baseball and struck out seven batters. Zach Evans came in relief for Ripley in the sixth and finished the job, sitting down a pair of batters between his two innings of work.

Kyle Vidano had three hits on the night. Jacob Borenstein finished with a two hits and two stolen bases. Joe Burris and Timmy Aker put together their second straight multiple hit performances.

Albemarle (2-1) jumps back into Commonwealth District play with Massoponax on the road Tuesday at 6 p.m.
