Albemarle baseball falls in close one with Powhatan

Despite a complete game effort by Scott Reid, Albemarle baseball fell 1-0 to Powhatan on the road Thursday night.

Reid scattered five hits and surrendered just the single run in the bottom of the second when Jacob Beil singled to bring in Cody Willis for the Indians who’d hit a leadoff double.

With Tommy Preston in control on the mound for the Indians as he also scattered five hits and struck out three while walking another three, that one run was enough for the Indians.

Albemarle stranded seven baserunners on the night, but got solid hitting performances from Andrew Porter who went 2-for-4 and Connor Moriarty who had a double in the top of the fourth that Albemarle failed to capitalize on.

The Patriots will look to bounce back quickly against another top squad in the Jefferson District Friday night as they travel to take on Fluvanna County.
